This is a generic term for media blasting. Media blasting is the term used for ejecting differing medias at the surface of a part under high pressure. Typically aluminum oxide, zirconium, glass and in some cases iron grit are used. Softer media such as walnut shell, granulated plastic or even sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) are used to remove coatings without damaging the substrate. Most sandblast media will not only remove any existing paint, powder coating and corrosion, but will also etch the surface. This etch is also called anchor tooth and sometimes referred to leaving a “hill & valley” in the surface being blasted. Andrews Powder Coating, Inc, can offer differing types of media to meet the demand of your individual requirements.
